Service Description

Heart dhara, also known as Hrudaya Basti, is a deeply soothing Ayurvedic therapy that nourishes the emotional and energetic centre of the body. A soft circular dam is placed over the heart area and filled with a continuous stream of warm, medicated oil. The gentle warmth penetrates the chest, helping to soften tension, calm the nervous system, and create a profound sense of emotional ease. The treatment is complemented by a grounding head and foot massage, including key marma points, to support whole‑body relaxation and integration. This therapy is traditionally used to relieve anxiety, grief, fear, and emotional heaviness, offering a safe space for deep rest and release. Because the heart is considered the seat of consciousness and emotion in Ayurveda, Heart Dhara can help surface and dissolve long‑held patterns or repressed memories. It is also supportive for conditions such as high blood pressure, chest tightness, palpitations, and other heart‑related imbalances, helping to restore a sense of balance, warmth, and inner steadiness. "I was drawn to having a heart dhara treatment with Jo after having experienced a few roller coaster years of being a carer, family bereavements and some health issues. I had no idea what to expect but Jo was so lovely I felt that I could relax and just see what happened. During the session I began to feel a sense of calm as the warm oil was poured rhythmically over my heart area. It was so peaceful, all my senses seemed heightened, and I could feel my breathing deepen. I really felt like it was the beginning of nurturing and reconnecting with myself again." Jo Harris, Somerset While gentle and nurturing, Heart Dhara is not suitable for everyone. The treatment should be avoided during fever, acute infection, active chest inflammation, open wounds or rashes on the chest, or any contagious skin condition. It is also contraindicated for individuals with uncontrolled high or very low blood pressure, severe heart disease, recent cardiac events, or acute chest pain of unknown origin. Avoid treatment during pregnancy unless specifically advised by a qualified practitioner, as heat therapies may not be appropriate for all stages. Caution is recommended for those with heat‑sensitive conditions, anxiety triggered by chest‑focused treatments, recent surgery, or sensitivity to medicated oils. In these cases, modifications or alternative therapies may be more appropriate to ensure comfort and safety.
